This will be a short post – a quick update about my false start.

Over two months have passed, and unfortunately, I haven’t done much with my project. I had to wrap up some things in “work”. A lot was happening in my personal life. But that’s behind me now, and I can finally focus on what I want.

What’s next?

I don’t want to start and do a bit of everything randomly. My plan is to focus on two to three main things over the next 3 months. After that period, I’ll evaluate whether these activities bring me any joy or fulfillment. To begin, I’ve chosen writing, mobile development and learning to play the drums.

Why these three?

Writing

I’ve always considered myself an analytical thinker, favoring mathematics over humanities. I also always thought that I am just not suited for such activities as writing, drawing or playing instruments. As a kid, I didn’t like writing – I wanted to play football (the real one, the one you kick the ball actually with your foot) and video games. So what changed my mind? As an adult, I’ve realized that communication is one of the most valuable skills anyone can have. And what is writing, if not a form of communication?

Mobile Developmnet

For over a decade, I worked as a web developer, but at some point, I burned out. My passion for programming has disappeared. I want to go back to my roots, when I learned to code by myself, just of curiosity and desire to create. Trading my time for money slowly drained that excitement. So what is better than learn something new, fun and practical in my own pace without deadlines?

Drums

This is similar to writing, except for one difference – I love music. I have zero musical talent, absolutely ZERO. Yet music was always with me – I listen to it all the time. I remember buying my first mp3 player with 64MB of memory… I had to compress mp3 files to some strange format so that I can put like 20-30 songs on the player. That was a game changer, I could go out and listen to music without carrying walkman or discman! I’ve always dreamed of playing some of my favorite songs. Because I always assumed I have zero talent, I never thought of actually learning any instrument. Well, this is about to be changed!

Other stuff

The three subjects above are my primary things, my compass for the next three months. I don’t want to spread my focus too much because I know that wouldn’t be effective. But I consider doing some other stuff when, for example, I have some spare time, or I am not feeling like doing the “main” things. What is this other stuff? Things like drawing, working on IoT projects, or learning a new language.

What next?

I’m putting this false start behind me and finally moving forward. The plan is to document my progress here – not just as a personal record, but also as a way to improve my writing. So, if you’re interested in following my journey, stick around – this should be an interesting ride!
